Overview
The Environmental Manager Track prepares participants to take responsibility for establishing, maintaining and improving an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001. Rather than treating environmental management as a compliance layer or documentation exercise, this programme teaches how to embed environmental thinking into strategy, operations, risk management and decision-making.
Through the modular Halderstone curriculum, participants learn how to:
analyse organisational context, environmental conditions and stakeholder requirements,
define roles, responsibilities, governance structures and policies tailored to environmental objectives,
build a consistent risk approach including environmental aspects and impacts,
design and manage operational controls to reduce environmental harm,
coordinate processes such as emergency planning, compliance evaluation, supplier oversight and performance monitoring,
run a meaningful management review process, and
continuously improve environmental performance through structured methods.
Most modules are shared across Halderstone’s manager tracks, making it easy to broaden one’s expertise into integrated management systems or add additional specialisations with limited extra training. The environmental-specific modules provide the depth required to apply the management system approach to environmental topics in practice. A final assessment ties these elements together into a realistic EMS scenario.

Two credentials with one track
Halderstone Professional Diploma in Management Systems
The Halderstone Professional Diploma in Management Systems certifies a solid, cross-domain foundation in designing, operating and improving management systems. It focuses on the common principles that apply across standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 22301 and ISO/IEC 42001.
The diploma demonstrates that you can analyse organisational context, establish governance and roles, apply risk-based thinking, define objectives and controls, evaluate performance and drive continual improvement. It confirms your ability to manage systems as living organisational capabilities, not as isolated compliance initiatives.
This core diploma is shared across all Halderstone Manager tracks and forms the basis for adding further domain specialisations efficiently.

Halderstone Specialist Certificate in Environmental Management
The Environmental Management specialisation focuses on applying the management system methodology specifically to environmental challenges such as emissions, waste, resource use, biodiversity and regulatory compliance.
Participants learn how to identify and evaluate environmental aspects and impacts, integrate environmental criteria into operational decision-making, monitor environmental performance data, prepare for environmental emergencies and coordinate with suppliers and partners to manage their environmental impact.
This specialisation also covers compliance obligations, environmental life-cycle thinking at a practical level, and how environmental priorities can be aligned with broader organisational strategy without causing unnecessary bureaucracy.

The Environmental Manager Track shares most of its modules with other Halderstone manager programmes. This means your learning is recognised across tracks, allowing you to gain additional specialisations with minimal extra training.
For example, participants who complete this track can obtain the Quality Management or Information Security Management specialisation by completing only the relevant domain-specific modules. This modular approach allows professionals to build an integrated management system competence profile step by step, without repeating content.

Capstone project and final exam
Practical and theoretical demonstration of your acquired competence in Environmental Management
The programme concludes with a combined assessment consisting of:
a written examination covering core and environmental management system principles, and
a capstone project in which participants design or improve an Environmental Management System for a selected organisation or scenario.
The project includes defining environmental aspects and impacts, designing operational controls, setting objectives, selecting performance indicators and planning targeted environmental improvements. Successful participants receive both the Halderstone Professional Diploma in Management Systems Management and the Halderstone Specialist Certificate in Environmental Management.
