Overview

The Business Continuity Manager Track is designed for professionals who are responsible for establishing and running a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) in their organisation. Rather than treating business continuity as a set of emergency plans or one-off preparedness activities, the programme covers the full management system lifecycle: from understanding organisational priorities and disruption risks through to preparedness, response capability, performance evaluation and continual improvement.

The track combines cross-standard management system modules with business-continuity-specific content. Participants learn how to interpret ISO 22301 requirements in a practical way, how to translate impact and risk considerations into continuity strategies and recovery capabilities, how to coordinate roles and responsibilities across the organisation, and how to ensure continuity arrangements remain effective as the organisation and its risk landscape change.

The modules are structured so they can be completed over several months. Most are shared with other Halderstone manager tracks, making it straightforward to build integrated management system expertise or add further specialisations without repeating foundational content. A final assessment consolidates the learning in a realistic BCMS scenario and leads to a Halderstone diploma and a business continuity specialisation certificate.

Two credentials with one track

Halderstone Professional Diploma in Management Systems

The Halderstone Professional Diploma in Management Systems certifies a solid, cross-domain foundation in designing, operating and improving management systems. It focuses on the common principles that apply across standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 22301 and ISO/IEC 42001.

The diploma demonstrates that you can analyse organisational context, establish governance and roles, apply risk-based thinking, define objectives and controls, evaluate performance and drive continual improvement. It confirms your ability to manage systems as living organisational capabilities, not as isolated compliance initiatives.

This core diploma is shared across all Halderstone Manager tracks and forms the basis for adding further domain specialisations efficiently.

Halderstone Specialist Certificate in Business Continuity Management

The Business Continuity Management specialisation focuses on applying general management system practices to the specific needs of a Business Continuity Management System aligned with ISO 22301. It addresses how continuity requirements are translated into practical preparedness, response and recovery capabilities that protect critical activities and organisational objectives.

The specialisation emphasises understanding critical dependencies, setting realistic recovery objectives, defining continuity strategies and embedding them into operational processes. It also covers the coordination of roles and communication under disruption, the use of exercises and tests to validate assumptions, and the use of evidence from incidents and simulations to improve resilience. The focus is on building continuity capabilities that actually work under pressure, not plans that exist only on paper.

Most modules in this track are shared with other Halderstone manager tracks, such as Information Security Manager, Data Protection Manager or Integrated Management System Manager. This allows you to earn additional specialisation certificates with only a few extra modules, without repeating the shared management system core.

For example, completing the Business Continuity Manager Track brings you close to qualifying for Information Security or Data Protection Management specialisations. The additional effort is typically 1–3 modules, depending on the target domain and your professional context.

Capstone project and final exam

Practical and theoretical demonstration of your acquired competence in Business Continuity Management

The track concludes with a combined assessment:

  • a written exam covering the essential principles of management systems and business continuity management, and

  • a capstone project in which participants design or improve a Business Continuity Management System for a selected organisation or context.

The project includes defining critical activities and dependencies, disruption scenarios, recovery objectives, continuity strategies, governance arrangements, response and recovery mechanisms, and performance evaluation. The assessment is designed to test practical preparedness and resilience thinking rather than formal compliance with standard clauses.
